Homeless Prevention

HPRP  (Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Rehousing Program)
Purpose

  • Homelessness prevention
  • Diversion (finding alternative housing as soon as people become homeless, so they do not need to spend the night in a homeless shelter), and
  • Rapid re-housing for people who are currently homeless.
  • Who Should Apply?

    Anyone currently facing a housing crisis which has or will result in homelessness and who is located in Avery, Mitchell or Yancey Counties.

    The Program consists of:

    • Regular meetings with a case manager to address immediate housing issues and set meaningful goals.
    • Periodic home visits to verify program compliance.
    • A home inspections to certify housing quality standards and lead paint safety.
    • Periodic budget assessment and income goals.
    • Coordination with local asstance agencies and the local housing authority.
    • Coordination landlords and utility companies to assist with negotating a fair lease and any necessary repayment plans.
